Growing commercial law firm CIE Legal has bolstered its commercial and technology practice with the hire of a highly regarded commercial partner and special counsel.

This month, Jeremy Snow joined the Melbourne-based firm as a partner, with Lisa Splawa-Neyman joining as special counsel.

Jeremy and Lisa specialise in complex commercial transactions and strategic projects, particularly in the technology space. They also advise on general contracting, procurement, intellectual property, data protection, privacy and cybersecurity.

Jeremy is a highly rated practitioner with experience at established top-tier national and new law firms. He has been recognised in Doyles Guide, Best LawyersTM, and Legal 500, and brings a wealth of experience across a wide range of sectors, from technology and telecommunications to health and life sciences, transport and logistics, food and beverage, professional services, retail and FMCG.

Lisa also advises on commercial matters and strategic projects. She has a particular interest in competitive tendering and has guided private sector and government clients through all stages of the procurement process. In addition to practising law, she has been regularly appointed as a sessional lecturer in Company Law at Monash University since 2006.

Commenting on what attracted him to CIE Legal, Jeremy notes the “top quality client base and work, combined with a genuinely friendly and decent culture. It’s a place where I can develop my practice among people who will challenge, inspire and support me. CIE Legal is not afraid to try new things, and, as someone with an interest in the evolving practice of law, I find that very appealing. I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together.”

Managing Partner Peter George emphasises the strategic nature of this development. “Over the last few years, our relationship with iconic-brand name clients has grown significantly, and they’re coming to us with more and more of their strategic projects as well as day-to-day work. We wanted to expand our team to capitalise on this growth.”

George cites the firm advising Ford on its re-introduction of the F-150 pick-up truck to Australia as just one example of the type of strategic projects the firm now handles.

“When we looked to expand, we wanted more than just expertise” George continues. “‘Law without the attitude’ is one of our mantras and it encapsulates perfectly what we’re about – high quality, commercial advice delivered in an accessible, no-nonsense way. We’re uncompromising when it comes to fit with that ethos, so I was delighted that Jeremy and Lisa share our vision and agreed to join us.”

It seems this combination of quality work combined with a friendly, straightforward culture is working for the Southbank headquartered firm, which has recently seen significant growth and a number of notable brands added to its client roster. Jeremy and Lisa bring the number of partners to 8 and special counsel to 3, with a team of 32 in total.
